Where to swim in Nice : the beaches to choose
Nice does not have a secret beach, gari. It is a big city with an international airport. If TikTok “revealed” it to you, the secret is already dead.

You want white sand, clear water, dégun around and all of it five minutes from Old Nice in August? Calu. A beach with hundreds of Google reviews, a bus stop and twelve Reels filmed before breakfast stopped being secret some time ago. Pick the right stretch of coast and stop looking for Narnia.
Ponchettes
The convenient one.
Right below Old Nice and Castle Hill. You can leave the water and be at Cours Saleya minutes later. You, half the city and several thousand visitors have all noticed the same useful fact. Try not to look personally betrayed when you see each other.
La Réserve
Smaller, further east and less Promenade.
A good option if you are combining the Port, Cap de Nice and a swim. It feels more local without becoming an anthropological expedition.
Coco Beach
For rocks and clear water, not for constructing a small private estate around your towel.
A rocky swimming area by the coastal path. Nice city authorities specifically warn against diving from the rocks here. Do not be the niocou doing it for a video. Gravity remains one of the Riviera’s more reliable institutions.
Centenaire / Beau Rivage
For a central swim with everything close by.
The classic Nice seafront. Easy, visible, practical. A place does not need to be secret to be enjoyable, particularly early morning or late afternoon.
For a quick swim: Ponchettes. For a proper sea break: La Réserve or Coco Beach. For dégun around in August: February. We are Niçoises, pichoun, not magicians.
Two useful things
Nice states that all city beaches have been smoke-free since 2024. In summer 2026 several lifeguard stations operate from 9 am to 6:30 pm in July and August, with selected beaches continuing into September. Check on the day if supervised swimming matters to you.
And buy water shoes if you dislike pebbles. Mèfi, vanity has sent better people limping back across the Promenade. The pebbles were here before your pedicure and do not give a damn about your aesthetic objections.
